I'm excited to share my recent hiking escapade on the breathtaking Tent Ridge Horseshoe trail in the stunning Kananaskis Country of Alberta.

Located just an hour's drive from Calgary, the Tent Ridge Horseshoe trail is truly a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Kananaskis Country. This 11-kilometer loop offers a challenging yet rewarding experience, rewarding hikers with panoramic views that will leave you in awe. Trust me, the stunning vistas are very distracting while you hike, it’s hard to just keep looking down without lifting your head up to see stunning vistas just about from any angle, my suggestion is do not rush, take your time to enjoy the gift in front of you. The trail makes every step of the journey worth it!

A Challenging Yet Accessible Adventure:

While the Tent Ridge Horseshoe trail is classified as a moderate to difficult hike, don't let that intimidate you. With a good level of fitness and sturdy footwear, you can conquer this trail. Be prepared for some steep ascents and narrow ridgelines, and occasional scrambling, but don't worry, the trail is well-marked, and the effort is worth the reward.

As you ascend Tent Ridge, you'll be treated to jaw-dropping views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Sweeping panoramas of Mount Smuts, Mount Shark to the West and Mount Assiniboine as you navigate northward on the ridge. The view of Spray Lakes will leave you feeling on top of the world.

Safety Goes a Long Way:

As with any outdoor adventure, safety is key. Ensure you are well-prepared with appropriate clothing layers, plenty of water as there are no source of water on the ridge , snacks, and a reliable map or navigation system. Additionally, check the weather conditions and trail status before heading out. Hiking with a buddy is always a great idea too especially after sunset as it gets really dark in the forest.
